This episode beautifully weaves together the excitement of baseball's opening weeks with the profound lessons found in 2 Samuel chapters 1-10. Just as we witness young players like Jordan Walker and Konnor Griffin stepping into their destined roles in baseball, we explore how God raised David to kingship in His perfect timing, not David's own. The journey wasn't smooth—David faced years of running from Saul, warfare with rival factions, and constant battles even after his anointing. Yet through it all, he remained humble, honored God's sovereignty, and inquired of the Lord before making major decisions. The key verse reminds us that David became more and more powerful because the Lord God Almighty was with him. This isn't about passive waiting—David still had to fight, work, and persevere—but he did so with complete dependence on God's guidance. When we face our own difficult paths, even when we know God has called us to something, we can remember that His timing is perfect and His ways are higher than ours. The holiness of God, demonstrated in the Uzzah incident with the Ark, reminds us that while God is our loving Father, He remains sovereign and holy—worthy of our reverence and worship.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome back to another episode of Baseball in the Bible. I hope you are as fired of as we are after watching that Mason Miller intro.

SPEAKER_01

Are you ready? Welcome. Yes, that is the best entrance in baseball right now in this early season.

SPEAKER_03

Beat it. I dare you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's it's a it's a good entrance. Uh Mason Miller with his new team, the Padres. But we hope you're ready. We're ready.

SPEAKER_03

We are very fired up.

SPEAKER_01

We are fired up. We want to start having our own uh intro music to the pod and getting us fired up as we walk in as walk into the ready. Absolutely. Awesome walk-up song. We've got a lot of baseball to get into and our devotion. Uh so we hope you guys are ready. Thank you for being with us.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, we have a new segment coming up.

SPEAKER_01

A new segment, or yeah, something we're gonna try to do every every episode. Um where do you want to start?

SPEAKER_03

I think um in the week baseball.

SPEAKER_01

We're recording this again, early, you know, midweek here is is on a Wednesday before this. Yeah, we can start there.

SPEAKER_03

I think, yeah. So it's the 75th anniversary.

SPEAKER_01

52nd. It was April 8th, 1974. No, that's all right. Yeah, 1974, April 8th. Today, when we're recording this, you're watching this after the fact, but April 8th, 1974. 52 years ago, Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth uh 714 by hitting 715. So we got Hammer and Hank up here uh in honor of him. We got a actually we have a Mount Rushmore of athletes up here. Athletes, absolutely. We got Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, and Jackie.

SPEAKER_03

The only person I think that is missing from this rushmore is Ruth.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. We couldn't fit him up here. But we had to have a cardinal, so we got Willie McGee hiding over here in the corner. But uh yeah, but yes, that's a pretty good, pretty good list. But yeah, today's the day. Hammer and Hank broke the record. Uh so we can start there. Um what else? What else can we start with as we get into the the week that's passed? Um anything you want to want to give? We can give an updated standings. Yeah, I like that. See where we're at. Let's do that. Let's do that. Uh again, recording this, some things may have changed by the time it airs, but let's just see. So Wednesday. Yeah, so we had some games that just finished afternoon games. Uh we'll start in the National League, the Central. A little bit of a surprise. The the Reds as of today are leading the division, eight and three. Uh, actually came into Texas and ruined opening day uh at home for Texas, actually swept them here in Texas. So eight and three for the Cincinnati Reds. We'll see if that lasts. Uh Brewers are eight and four, they're legit. Pirates, my wildcard team, seven and five. Uh, so they're off to a good start. The fighting Cardinals are seven and five as well. Not uh bad. Not bad at all. Yeah. The best part of all this is I haven't mentioned the Cubs yet because they're in last place as a five and six. Cubs bringing up the rear.

SPEAKER_03

Don't they have two injuries now?

SPEAKER_01

They did, and they lost two pitchers of Matthew Boyd. We don't, I mean, we quietly do it. We don't like give publicly. Quietly. But Matthew Boyd, I think, again, for those guys, it stinks. Um, obviously. For us Cardinals fans. I think he's out for the year, and then they had a another starter that got hurt. I forget who it was, but uh we'll see what happens in in that division. Just a quick thing on the cards. Uh Jordan Walker, as of today. Getting hot, getting hot. He's lead, he's I think tied or leading the league with home runs. Got five as of today. He's on a little bit of a heater, which is awesome because we've been waiting for that uh for from him. Uh National League. Yeah, well, they've been playing in some cold places. So uh National League East, uh, you got the Braves as of today, eight and five, Mets second. Marlins, who started off five and one, have kind of come back to reality. They're six and five, Phillies six and six. The Nats, uh who Card just wrapped up a series with them, four and eight. Um they've got a really good, I mean, I think they're first or something. I mean, they're up there in and hitting, but they're just their bullpen is not good. The Cardinals isn't either, but it was a battle of bad bullpins in that series. Uh the West uh Dodgers 9-3. I think they've pretty much wrapped up that division already two weeks into it. Their magic number is like 10 to I'm just kidding, but yeah, they're you know, Padres are six and six, everybody else is kind of right there uh 500.

SPEAKER_03

Um but they are I want to say bullpen-wise, although the Nats might not have the best bullpen, they might have the best looking. Cavalli, that mustache. That's a killer mustache.

SPEAKER_01

That is a killer mustache. I don't know if we can get a photo. I don't think he's the he wasn't uh I don't I think he was the starter though. That was a starter for that was a starter for game two, but it is a good mustache. Great mustache, it's worth worth giving it a shout out. Um all right in the American League. Uh as of today, Yankees are in first, eight and two in the east. Uh Baltimore uh six and six, Tampa five and six, Toronto five and seven, Boston four and eight, and they've been off to a rough start. They're going into St. Louis this weekend, as of when this is airing, we would have just wrapped up that series with with the Sox. The Central, the Guardians 8-5, Twins 5-6, Royals, who I picked, are a little struggling 5-7, Detroit struggling a little bit, 4-7, White Sox four and eight. And then the West, uh local team, Rangers, again, even after getting swept at home, which is uh surprising. Um, they turn around and they just came off a sweep. I just finished up a sweep today of the Mariners. Uh so they're seven and five in first. Angels six and seven, Astro six and seven. Uh Mariners off to a rough start. Uh their big boys are not hitting yet. Um they will wake up, I believe, but this is part of what when we talked about our predictions. I was a little worried. Again, I still think they'll they'll they'll be fine. Uh and the A's are three and seven. So those are kind of your standings as of April 8th. Um surprises, but again, it's it's still so early. Can't draw any any big conclusions there. Um couple things that we wanted to talk about, just some cool things. Uh Otani uh again on April 8th. He just he pitched today. He had a scoreless streak, both of he had a scoreless streak as a pitcher, I think, of 22 and a third or 22 and two third innings heading into the start against the Blue Jays. It was this was a rematch of the World Series, and the Blue the Dodgers won the first two pretty convincingly. Again, Blue Jays are and it was in Toronto. Blue Jays are struggling a bit, but I believe they'll find their their legs too. But uh Otani was anything based off these not no. I mean, again, I think they're you can you can be look you can look for some some signs maybe, but it you know, some of these teams I think will rally and and even as we're airing this today, they had a big comeback against the Dodgers. They won today, which hope maybe that'll be a kick start, you know, to get them going. But uh the very first pitch of the game today, Otani was the first pitcher to ever challenge the first pitch of the game with the ABS. That's the first time it happened. So and he got it wrong. But I don't know that you want to challenge pitch one. Again, I think it's a little premature.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then he ended up giving a hit to George Springer, but he challenged pitch one. He makes history wherever he goes. Anyway, he's heading in, he's heading into this game, and he uh uh had uh that streak broken. I think he gave up uh a run in after the two innings, so it ended at twenty-four and a third or twenty-four and two-thirds. Uh but he does still have a on base streak going as of today uh of 43 games, I believe. Um 43 consecutive games being on base, which is incredible. He's approaching record type stuff. So uh we'll see if that keeps going. He walked his first at bat of the game, so that kept the streak going. But 43, 43 games. You know, counting last season, so it's pretty pretty awesome. Uh weatherhold's done. Weatherholdt's doing good. Yeah, he's got 10.

SPEAKER_03

Or 10, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, 10. Or 11, 10 or 11. Whatever he's every game that he's he's only didn't he didn't start one game, but every game he started, he's reached base. So I think it's 10, 10 or 11 games to start his career that he's got on base, which is great.

SPEAKER_03

That's how O'Thani started.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah. Uh we can talk about Weatherhole a little bit in uh when we talk about some of the other young guys that have been called up. Uh we had him, we talked about him last last week, but then also uh this week, Connor Griffin was called up for the Pirates, the number one prospect in baseball.

SPEAKER_03

Can I tell them how you got got by AI?

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So my dad, we were we like we were having Easter. Yeah. We we were setting up for that. We were watching the uh Pirates game up on the TV. And my dad's like, man, that Connor kid, he is off to a start. He has two home runs. And then uh he comes to me later in that same day, I think. Yeah, he comes to me and he says, So he didn't have two home runs. Uh apparently that video was AI because they were doing like a walkthrough of each of uh is that bats.

SPEAKER_01

No, they were just it totally made it up because that was his first series and it was at home. Exactly. And when I saw the video, he was at Finway Park and he hit like two bombs over the monster, and then I was watching the game, I was like, wait a second, they're at home, they're not even they're playing the Orioles. So I got guy, and then I saw his stats, and yeah, he hasn't hit he hadn't hit a home run as of yet, but he did, I think his first AB, he had a double, his family was there. Just incredible that you have him, then you have uh McConnigal uh for Detroit uh playing third. He's off to a great start, and then Weatherholt. Um, so just the fact that these kids are being it's it may be the new way, you know, where these guys are being thrown in. Again, Connor Griffin is only 19 years old.

SPEAKER_03

Insane. And uh just became an adult.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and then then the other new trend with these guys is both uh Griffin and McConnigal have been locked up already. So the pirates just signed Griffin to a nine-year,$140 million contract. So not bad for 19 years old, right?

SPEAKER_03

Then not bad at all.

SPEAKER_01

So again, it's we talked about it a little bit, it's it's kind of risky to do that, but yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely, because you you have to be sure that they will you have to have pretty good faith.

SPEAKER_01

And you know, and now if he does turn into a superstar, you've got a bargain by today's standards, but if he you know gets hurt bad or you know just flames out, then that's gonna look bad on you. But uh I think it's it's worth the risk, and I think the Cardinals probably will do it with Weatherholt here pretty soon. Um matter of time. Matter of time. Anything else that you're thinking uh from this week that jumped out at you trying to look through. Oh, the fight.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the highlight uh it was again it was during the angels and braves, yeah. Little kerfuffle there.

SPEAKER_01

Little kerfuffle. That's basically all it was. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean they were throwing punches.

SPEAKER_01

They were throwing punches, but not really landing punches.

SPEAKER_03

No, no punches were landed. So Lair charged the mound, yeah. Suspensions.

SPEAKER_01

They both got suspended seven games each at this point.

SPEAKER_03

That's just one start for the pitcher, so that's not true.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I gotta have to have to check. We haven't I think Lopez is a reliever, so it'll be seven for him too. But uh I could be wrong on that. But either way, they both got suspended seven games. Uh one thing I I forgot to mention when we talked about the Rangers, the Rangers just swept um the Mariners. Mackenzie Gore pitched really well again for them, so give a shout out to him and the local folks. But that's his second start now with the Rangers. He's a new guy and he's he's done very well. You know, I think he went five and gave up one hit today. Uh so pretty good for him. Um, yeah, we had the fight. What else did we have this week that um we talked about Mason Miller in his intro. He's also had I think he had a streak of eleven uh straight batters faced. He struck him out. So again, he's a reliever, he's coming in to close the game, but that's still an incredible streak. I think he had it, he had it in uh this week in Pittsburgh. Uh, but he's been since I mean he's come out of the gates awesome. Yeah. Literally. And uh with his new team, he's he's showing how good he is. So he's he's done very well to start his uh time again. That's always a tricky thing when you're coming to a new team. Sometimes you press a little bit, and but he's he's doing well. What else we got? Anything else? I think that's it.

SPEAKER_03

Other um the new segment, or we the new segment, we can do that.

SPEAKER_01

So what we're gonna talk about uh each week, we're gonna do what?

SPEAKER_03

Player of the week. Player of the week. So this year, or this week, yeah, we have something that first time it's ever happened. Fir last time it might happen. Um what's his name?

SPEAKER_01

Joe Adele.

SPEAKER_03

Joe Adele for the the Angels is our.

SPEAKER_01

Joe Adele is our first ever player of the week. And it had to be Joe Adele. It could only be Joe Adele.

SPEAKER_03

It could only be him because he just made history with you'll you'll see it in this video. Yeah. But three robberies.

SPEAKER_01

Three robberies in one game.

SPEAKER_03

In one game. And the funny thing is, if they had hit all of those home runs, it would have been four to one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was a one to nothing game.

SPEAKER_03

One to nothing game, Angels win, but it could have been four to one Mariners.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, so you get we'll and we're gonna show 'em. It's too good not to show, so we're gonna we're gonna put them up here on the screen.

SPEAKER_03

So bad or something to be a listener, I'll tell you that.

SPEAKER_01

If you're a listener, go home and watch it. But uh we're gonna we'll we'll try to recap it as we watch it here, but let me pull it up.

SPEAKER_03

Um try to get the uh announcers in the microphone.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, we'll try to do that.

SPEAKER_03

That way they can hear what's going on here.

SPEAKER_01

All right, let me get it pulled up. And again, this is Joe Adele against the Mariners.

SPEAKER_03

Right field.

SPEAKER_01

Right field. This is the first one.

SPEAKER_03

Cal Rally. Nothing short of acrobatic.

SPEAKER_01

First inning. You think, oh, that's that's pretty cool. I mean, what a great way to start the game. First inning. Runner on base would have been a two-run, two-run shot. That would have been Cal's first home run of the big dumper. Turned us down a little bit. All right, now we're in the the eighth inning. Celebrating. It's so cool. I saw uh the next day in the uh in the Mariners on their whiteboard, you know, for the notes of the day, like the play, uh like their strategy basically. It just said strategy for the day, do not hit the ball to Joe Adele. That was basically like their game plan for the day. Do not hit the ball at Joe Adele. Here we go. This may be the best one. Ninth inning, one to nothing still.

SPEAKER_03

In the stands. Now here's the thing. He's gone.

SPEAKER_01

You'll hear him talking about it. If he's in the stands, like if he jumps and lays in there and then catches it, it's a home run. So at first they didn't know. They called him out and then they challenge it. The uh Mariners challenge it. Because if he's in the stands, you can't like jump in the stands and catch the ball there. But if you catch it while falling in, so then they start showing the highlight here, and you can clearly see he caught it in fair. Look at Crawford's reaction. So he got Cal Riley in the first, he got Joe uh Boneer in the eighth, or Josh Naylor, I'm sorry. Josh Naylor in the eighth. Now they're challenging. But here you can clearly see. Got it. And then he falls in. This picture right here where he stands up. There's a picture from it. I think we'll use it as our it's probably going to be our our thumbnail for this episode. But it's just the image of him from behind. He's standing in the crowd. Standing in the crowd holding his glove up with the fans all around him. So they're challenging it right now to see whether he was. Yeah. Unbelievable. I mean, one is one thing. Three, again, it's something that's never happened and may never happen again. Crawford's reaction is like, you gotta be kidding me. Here they come with the ruling. And just the reaction from him and from the crowd, man.

SPEAKER_03

I mean that's in Angel Stadium. You gotta think, would he be getting like booed if he was in Seattle? If he was in Seattle?

SPEAKER_01

Uh I don't know if you could boo that. That was just so great. So that's amazing. So there you go, Joe Adele, our first player of the week, and we're gonna do that every week. Just highlight somebody that uh was awesome that week. So uh pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

That's our baseball for this week. Let's get into the second part of our podcast today and the Bible.

SPEAKER_01

The Bible. Yes. And um, if you've been watching and paying attention, we we covered first Samuel, then we took a little break for Palm Sunday and Easter. And now we're gonna pick back up in 2 Samuel. Um picking up again just quickly, 1 Samuel. Saul had just died in battle. Jonathan died as well.

SPEAKER_03

Well, died okay. Jonathan died in battle. Saul just killed himself.

SPEAKER_01

Well, no, but he was from battle. He was wounded from battle. He didn't just do it. He was it was on the battlefield where that happened. He was wounded and then they just basically he was asking somebody to to take him out of his misery, basically. And somebody does. And you learn about that person in the first chapter of 2 Samuel. So we're gonna do the same thing. We're gonna recap, uh, we're gonna go through it. Uh not a this is not a deep dive. Uh we're gonna try to cover it as quickly as we can. Um, over the next you know, three weeks or so, 2 Samuel. If you haven't read them, Riker, recommend it.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, no, absolutely. It's I don't even the I'm covering the first four chapters, I think. It's an action movie. Like that I've described it as that throughout 1st and 2nd Samuel. It's it's just an action movie. Yeah. And it that a rated R action movie.

SPEAKER_01

It's like you're getting to watch an action movie that you're not supposed to watch.

SPEAKER_03

It feels like I'm because I have like that thing where if I read it, I imagine it in the head. Yeah. So I'm basically watching a rated R movie by reading this.

SPEAKER_01

You are. But it's uh it's true and and real. And uh and again, just that's we've talked about it, but yes, these first these first and second Samuel is it's it's an action movie. So absolutely. If you haven't read them, join us. We'll work our way through it. But uh again, we're picking up here in chapter one, and Riker, how would you summarize chapter one?

SPEAKER_03

Um so basically, chapter one, um this entire chapter is David hearing, or I guess David hearing about Saul and Jonathan's death and mourning. I feel like that's a good way to describe it because the first half of chapter one, uh David, uh a man uh it says David returned from striking down the Amalekites, that's what he was doing at that time. And yeah, he was having a day of his own. And a man comes, it says, with his clothes torn and dust on his head, so clearly he's been in the battlefield.

SPEAKER_01

No, he's been that's a sign of mourning.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it is?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's a sign of mourning back in that time, yes. So he's been mourning.

SPEAKER_03

No, yeah. He's been mourning. Uh David asks, where have you come from? Basically, he just says, I escaped the battlefield. Um he everyone kind of fled. Um many of them died. Uh he said he tells David, Jonathan and Saul are dead. So uh then he describes, then David keeps asking him questions, which gets escalated pretty quickly. David's like, who where like what are you? Yeah, well, we won't say like certain things. Yeah, certain things you'll have to ask your parents about. I had to ask mine and now I'm traumatized. But anyway, basically, um David asks, like, what are you? He said, an Amalekite. And David says, uh, I'm gonna quote him here. Um He said, Why weren't you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord's anointed? Then basically David just gets one of his men and says, Kill him. Yeah. And he dies. Second half, uh he says David's lamnet, I think it is. Lamenting. Lament that's yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

He's mourning, he's he's mourning, he just uh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And again, I think you know that chapter it shows uh one of the we we we witnessed it and read about it at the end of 1 Samuel, David's um honor toward Saul, even though Saul was trying to kill him, David still showed honor to the throne, uh to the Lord uh by doing so, and and even in this moment, instead of rejoicing, like alright, I'm king.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he was he mourned.

SPEAKER_01

He mourned absolutely first for Saul and obviously for Jonathan, his best bud.

SPEAKER_03

You said uh uh your love for me was more wonderful or more wonderful than that of a woman.

SPEAKER_01

So some key things again. We're gonna we kind of have a my notes here just kind of broken down into little segments here, these first first chapters. Um but obviously that happens there in chapter two. Um David's anointed king over Judah, not entirety of Israel, not entirety of Israel yet. A tribe, yeah. Um and then war continues between whom?

SPEAKER_03

The houses of David and the house of Saul.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Um and so Saul had other kids, obviously, besides Jonathan. And some of those other kids did not want to give up the kingdom uh so easily. And uh so they they resulted in the only way they knew how back then fighting for it, right? War and uh they tried some interesting things as you'll read in in in chapter two and three, um and and some crazy things kind of happened there.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you are we gonna talk about the uh Abner thing?

SPEAKER_01

Well, what do you want to talk about with Abner?

SPEAKER_03

Uh I mean that's a pretty significant part of this chapter, I think.

SPEAKER_01

Uh what part?

SPEAKER_03

Just uh the whole like chasing Yeah, what do you want to talk about?

SPEAKER_01

Go for it.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, so the war it gets into detail. Uh Abner and Ishabeth. Right? Those are the two.

SPEAKER_01

Ish Ishbaheth, yeah. Ishbaseth.

SPEAKER_03

So um was it Abner chasing? I forget who it was.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm trying to figure out where you're at, in all honesty. Um yeah, Abner is chasing him.

SPEAKER_03

And he didn't turn to his right or to his left. You know what I'm talking about?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um basically the the guy's like, why would you like I I can't kill you, I can't look at your brother the same way. Yeah. And then he continues chasing him, and it's Besheth.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um the butt of a spear puts that through his chest.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So that's again. There's a lot of things that go on in those in those couple chapters there, and uh a few people die in that. And there's some some things that happen, but ultimately it ends up. Well I'm just trying not to get too deep into the to that part of it. You enjoy it. Uh encourage everybody to read it. But it's just a lot of, I mean, it is a lot of fighting, a lot of killing. This is why I enjoy Gladiator. Yeah. Uh, but ultimately it leads to chapter five. Um, God establishes uh David there. Um he becomes king over all of Israel. Right. And uh David was 30 years old when he became king. This is chapter or chapter five, verse four. David was thirty years old when he became king and he reigned 40 years. In Hebron, he reigned over Judah seven years and six months. And in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah 33 years, so a total of 40 years uh there is king. Um he comes in, uh conquers Jerusalem. Um and then the Philistines hear that he's king, and they um won a little piece of David. David inquired of the Lord, shall I go attack him? Will you deliver him into my hands? And the Lord says, Go, go up to Hebrews. So he goes up there and he defeats the Philistines. Um again, one lesson that we can get over this. I think it's just a great lesson in David's life. Um God raises leaders up and raises us up in his timing, not ours, right? Right. We we talked about it in 1 Samuel. A lot of opportunities he could have tried to take things into his own killing Saul, um, start battles that he didn't need to start. But I think the other thing is like even when the Lord does something like he's moving in your life, if you read these first five chapters of 2 Samuel, and even going back into 1 Samuel, like the Lord had already told David He was going to be king, he had anointed him through through uh he chooses to be humble. Well, yeah, but it's not like it wasn't like a a smooth and easy path. Oh, absolutely. He still had to like he's having to fight, you know, he's having to battle, he's having to go through hard times, even though the Lord's hand is on him, uh, and he's the Lord's chosen, and he's a man after God's own heart. He's still having to he's still having to work, he's still having to to fight and do these things. It's not like it's just like he could just sit back and sit in his throne and have some wine and just like I'm king now. Eat grapes, yeah. He had to fight for it, right? And so he did that.

SPEAKER_03

Eating grapes is the only luxury thing I know from back in the day. So that and drinking wine, but you always said that.

SPEAKER_01

So um okay, chapter six. What do you want to summarize there? Anything? The ark's brought back to Jerusalem.

SPEAKER_03

That's basically the Yeah, that's the whole thing there. A guy dies. He tells, yeah, Uzzah.

SPEAKER_01

Here, I wanted to read. Actually, I read verse four. I had it here to read it, and I we forgot. But go to verse 10 and chapter 5. I don't want to move on without reading this one.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Because verse 9 says, Then David took a residence in the fortress and called it the city of David. He built up the area around it. This is after taking over Jerusalem, and then verse 10 says.

SPEAKER_03

And he became more and more powerful because the Lord, because the Lord God Almighty was with him. I feel like that's crucial. That's just an important verse in life.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Um, okay, we're gonna get into the six. Again, we brought the the ark in. David rejoiced before the Lord, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Um again, we talked about Uzzah. He reached out and took hold of the Ark of God uh because the oxen stumbled. That was the thing, like the oxen just stumbled, and he reached out to try to like help, but he you just can't touch it. And the Lord's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act, therefore God struck him down and he died uh before the Ark of God. Uh David was angry because the Lord's wrath had broken out against Uzzah and to this day this place is called uh Perez Uzzah. David was afraid of the Lord that day. Yeah. And and basically said, How can how can the Ark of the Lord even come to me?

SPEAKER_03

Because I can't touch it. Um I feel like it's a little like it's weird to me because it's like the anger of the Lord. Again, God knows all things. God knows why the uh like the oxen stumbled. I don't like that just makes me curious on like why that ever happened. I don't know. That can just be prevented.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know, again, it's just I think some of that is just a uh a reminder, a he's sovereign, b, uh maybe this should be a he's holy and he is unapproachable. And while he is uh uh you know through G, you know, he's he's a loving, kind father, he is he's holy and and he is above everything. And I think sometimes, you know, we we talk about him like the the big man in the sky and stuff like that, where it's like he's almost one of us. And and those are just reminders where no no, he's not one of us. And the thing, the the item that represents him is to be treated reverently, you know, and even though it seems unfair, you know, it does honestly, you know, seem like, well, that's not fair. You guys just a guy that's all the ox and stumble and he reaches out to help, you know, it seems unfair, but then I think that was David's reaction. But again, his his ways are higher than ours. He's he's holy, and we can't, again, those are just good reminders that he's uh he is uh he is God. Holy. Um later in there, David David dances before the Lord. You want to read uh sec 2 Samuel 6, 14?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with the shouts and the sounds of trumpets. That's a pretty famous verse, I think.

SPEAKER_01

And just a reminder that we can worship the Lord. There's a lot of people that pointed that verse as far as just worshiping the Lord without worry.

SPEAKER_03

Isn't a linen e fob like pajamas?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Yeah, maybe kind of. I don't know how many shows yet. I mean it is, and yes.

SPEAKER_03

They would just say it's pajamas.

SPEAKER_01

That's a good way to put it. Yeah, yeah. Uh so I grew up in church. Okay. So yeah, so then again, I think just uh for the sake of time here, just seven through ten, really, you know, God's promise to David, and then it's just a lot of it's more of David's victories.

SPEAKER_03

Uh conquers.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, David defeats the Ammonites. Just just more, you know, eight through ten there uh of David establishing himself. Let's read just read 2 Samuel 10 12. I had that marked to read that, and we'll kind of wrap up with with that.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people in the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. And he will. And uh so we'll wrap up there because we we'll pick up in 11. You know, David starting eleven starts to make some mistakes. Um just some things I put you have here, just to kind of remember, you know, you kind of for the verse 10 verses, you had a humble heart as mourning for for Saul and Jonathan. He becomes king, he worships God, receives promise, wins victories. Those are kind of a timeline of one through ten. And um, yeah, and so then we'll we'll stop there.

SPEAKER_03

We'll pick up a bunch of death and gore.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, plus a lot of that. So again, go back and and read it. We tried to skip over some of that. Um, but in doing so, maybe there's some holes there. So go go fill in some of those holes and um make more sense to us because we that's ready. And then we'll pick up an 11 again. We start to get into some of David was not a perfect man, but uh we'll we'll get into some of those things as delicately as we can.

SPEAKER_03

All right, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

All right, that's it. Um thank you guys for being with us. Riker, pray for us, and we'll get out of here.

SPEAKER_03

Lord, thank you for this day. Thank you just um for this podcast, Lord. I just pray that uh anyone out there would just l listen and know that if they are struggling with something, Lord, that you do that something good is in their future, Lord. I pray that you would just remind them of that every day, Lord. Because I because we know that the road to glory isn't always easy. Lord, I just pray that we would just have a great day in Jesus' name, amen.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Amen. All right, we love you guys. Player of the week, Joe Adele.
